i like to refer to my current practice as a melding of geographies, as an immigrant to scotland who works with materials from my native spain and my current home of glasgow
fundamentally my work is about extraction of materials from the environment (coastal or urban) to construct bodies of work out the discarded, the buried under and the scrap of human existence
chema was born in granada, spain (1995) and grew up around the south as a child. they moved to scotland in their early twenties to pursue art and eventually graduated from the glasgow school of art with a masters in fine art practice. they have now established an independent practice in the east end of glasgow, where they are preparing several upcoming shows nationally and back home
